Three Mile Cross is a five-piece acoustic folk band from Reading, we like to write and play whenever we're not busy at the university, or working for "the man". Our influences are eclectic, allowing us to try out new things while staying close to our folk roots. In general, we believe there is nothing in life that can't be celebrated with a good cup of tea, and a tasty cake or biscuit. We play live as often as we are able as that's what we enjoy the most! Obviously it's a bit of a shame to let all the triple-platinum record deals slip by, just 'cause we're too lazy to get into a studio, but we'd rather play to you, our adoring fans, than to a microphone at any rate. So watch this space for our next album! The origins of Three Mile Cross are broad and varied; from the darkest depths of the Welsh hinterland to the dizzying glamour of Milton Keynes, we all ended up in Reading to study an equally disperate array of subjects. Perhaps more agreeably fortuitous was that, by one means or another, we all found each other to share our mutual love of music and music-making. And so Three Mile Cross was born. We started out as a duo, then added more strings, thicker strings and a bit of skin. We take our name from the nearby village in which none of us has ever lived and some of us have never even been to. We thought it sounds nice though. In the early days we played mostly open mic and low-key pub gigs and we still enjoy playing at the intimate places - the places where a handful of people turn up because they love music. We reckon we sound best unplugged and fully acoustic too, so if you can come along and catch us somewhere in and around Reading, we'd love to see you! Over the dark winter of 2006/2007, we took it upon ourselves to do a bit of recording. So we got hold of some recording equipment and spent some time putting together what was to become our first EP, Russian Caravan. It was our first attempt at home recording and we were pretty happy with the outcome (you can download and listen to some of the tracks on our music page) so we got a load of copies made and you can come and buy one from us at one of our gigs, or even order them using the link from this site! Over the summer, we played at a few of the local festivals in Berkshire and Oxfordshire as well as playing at some of our more regular haunts. Early 2008 has been pretty quiet for Three Mile Cross. Four of us are at various stages of writing-up PhD projects, so we've not been booking too many gigs. In the mean time, we're working on loads of new material and we're hoping to do a bit more recording in the early summer. We'll be sure to let you know how it goes... |
